Cuba is even closer !

Cuba que bolá! 

For the first time in 50 years… the airline service between United States and Cuba finally is re-established!

The first commercial flight between the two countries, departed this morning from the Fort Lauderdale International airport where it was was sent off with a traditional water cannon salute and landed in Santa Clara, after an hour, where it was greeted with a similar ceremony.

The Secretary of Transport Anthony Foxx, was the first off the plane after landing.

The official explained, under the agreement reached between the US and Cuba, every country has the opportunity to operate up to ten flights between five US cities (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, Minneapolis and Philadelphia) and nine international airports in Cuba, plus Havana. The first flights can be sold in the coming weeks.

 

Under the agreement released by the Department of Transportation, each country can operate up to 10 round-trip flights daily between the United States and each of the nine Cuban airports, for a total of 90 flights a day.

The government authorized the following airlines to fly to Cuba: American Airlines, Frontier, Silver Airways, JetBlue, Sun Country and Southwest.

Their destinations can be Havana, Camagüey, Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo, Cienfuegos, Holguin, Manzanillo, Matanzas, Havana and Santiago de Cuba

“The first US commercial flight to Cuba since 1961, just one year after raising the flag at the US embassy in Havana. Another step forward”, celebrated Secretary of State John Kerry via Twitter.
